Starcraft 2 Strategies - The Zerg Strategy
By Jeffrey Owen D Waters
There are several Starcraft 2 Strategies that you can follow to win the game. As you might be aware, there are three strategies in Starcraft 2:
1. Terran Strategy
2. Protoss Strategy
3. Zerg Strategy
One of the easiest, effective and most popular Zerg strategies is The Zergling Rush. It will work the best if your opponent is either Zerg itself or Protoss. It is not so effective against Terran as they can build walls real quick on their base and completely block the the Zergling invasion. You will find that there are several ways you possibly pull off the Zergling rush.
The initial way is really a "6/10" rush. In this strategy, the player does not develop any new drones to start and aims directly for Spawning Pool. This strategy is quite effective and useful in 1v1 play and is incredibly easy to execute. Quickly get your drones ready and command them to harvest minerals. Once you hit 200 minerals, construct a Spawning Pool. While the construction is in progress build a couple of drones and an overlord. Once the Spawning pool is ready, queue in 3 Larva so that you can get 6 Zerglings. Begin sending them to enemy base as soon as they are ready.
This strategy is a tricky one. You are on a do or die mission over here. If it you fail to pull it off, you will end up loosing the game. You must, at least, aim to eliminate most of units workers of your opponent.
Zergling Rush proves most useful when playing a 2v2, especially when your team member is also a Zerg. In a solo game, your 6-8 Zerglings can simply be out numbered by a single Zealot or a group of Probes. The story is different if you send 12-14 Zerglings as they can quickly out number and destroy an opponent base prior to their ally can come for assistance.
For a 1on1 type match, consider making a spawning pool at 9 of 10 supplies. Once this is set up, build an Overlord and work towards making some ore drones. Later when your spawning queue is empty build around 8~10 Zerglings and a Queen to strengthen your base.
The Queen will come extremely handy as it can produce more Zerglings with spawn larva skill. Unlike with a 6/10 rush, the 9/10 rush enables time for you to send much more Zerglings in soon after your initial wave. Your initial wave is likely to cripple the opponent and also the second wave will render you victorious.
Once you create your very own first batch of Zerglings, I would recommend you to go for an Extractor. Start harvesting some gas with this. Next step would be to upgrade your Zerglings speed. This will speed up your next attack and you would be able to get into enemy base much faster. It also improves efficiency against range targets or opponents such as Marines.
This is just one of many expert Starcraft 2 Strategies that I use. You can find even more powerful techniques to defeat your opponents and move up into the Platinum league at Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide.
